When he was drafted in 2010, Texas Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. became part of Major League Baseball history, as he and his father Delino DeShields Sr. became the first father and son duo to be selected in the first round straight out of high school. Now in his third pro season, the younger DeShields is paying tribute to the man who guided him to the Majors.
For Father's Day weekend, DeShields Jr. had his Adidas Freak X Carbon cleats customized by the Heyyman with a nod to his dad and the history they made together. An older image of the two, pulled from a real photograph, is painted near the heel, while the toebox reads, "First father and son duo to be drafted in the first round out of high school."
Players were permitted to wear blue-accented cleats and gear throughout the weekend. It's hard to imagine anybody topping DeShields' custom pair this year.
