The Adidas Sneaker Exchange program's next pairing of global retailers has U.K. store End Clothing working with Boston's Bodega, the two creating a pair of Iniki Runners ($180) and bringing back the Adidas Haven ($160). The sneakers will release at their home stores on July 1, with a wider launch to follow at Consortium accounts on July 8.
The shoes look to contemporary menswear for inspiration, their patchwork uppers referencing boro denim and Japan's sashiko stitching method. The designs are also united by their bottoms, which have a gum treatment.
Adidas' press release around these shoes describes them as being inspired by the past but oriented toward the future, not unlike the Iniki runner itself, a model combining vintage design cues with contemporary technology. The theme of past and present is also channeled through the repurposed tailoring applied to the uppers, which takes something old and makes it new again.
