It was 10 years ago this month when Kevin Durant signed his Nike contract and was immediately given a signature sneaker. Now, with a decade of on-court success and sneaker industry revolution under their belts, Durant and designer Leo Chang introduce the superstar's tenth signature model—the Nike KD 10.
The central feature on the KD is an advanced application of Flyknit, a technology Durant has wanted implemented into his signature line for years.
“I got a pair of the Flyknit Racer during the 2012 games in London and immediately loved them. That shoe is so stylish, so innovative and so comfortable. I’ve been asking for Flyknit in my shoe and the KD10 is my best shoe yet,” said Durant.
Carryovers from the Nike KD and KD 9 Elite include an exaggerated lacing system and full-length Zoom cushioning. Durant elaborates on what he likes about the laces.
“They are big and stand out from a mile away. It is one element Leo and I talk about when working designs—one thing that goes under the radar is the laces. To have Flyknit and a unique lacing pattern was key for us."
First up for the KD 10 is the "Anniversary" colorway, a faint blue make-up bearing a multicolor Swoosh representing the teams Durant has played for since college. The bespoke Swoosh is a first for the brand. This colorway will release Saturday, May 26, with the white-based "Still" colorway following on June 1.
