WWE wrestler and Champs Sports tag team partner Enzo Amore flipped an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to give back to the community. After getting his pair of Zebra Yeezy 350 V2s stolen out of his checked luggage on a flight, the wrestler tweeted a complaint to American Airlines, which in turn ended up compensating Amore for the lost sneakers.

“They refunded me $1,500 and I said, 'American Airlines, I’ll take our money and I know what to do with it.'” he recalled. “We decided to take the money that American Airlines gave me for my stolen Yeezys and donate it.”

Instead of offering straight cash to charity, Amore reached out to Champs Sports and went on a sneaker shopping spree in his home state of New Jersey. Securing several pairs of retro Air Jordans and Jordan gear from the retailer, the wrestler surprised over a dozen kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Newark with free shoes and apparel.

“Kids that make the decision to stay out of the streets and try to influence positivity in the world around them should be rewarded,” Amore said at the event, which was held as a part of the WWE’s Be a Star anti-bullying campaign.

According to the wrestler, who was limited to wearing Payless shoes as a kid, this was the first of many ways for him to use sneakers to give back to the community. Amore didn’t just drop off sneaker gifts, he also made a point to spend time mentoring the kids.

“Dreams oftentimes seem unattainable. I always aspired to be a pro wrestler and I just wanted a pair of Jordans as a kid,” Enzo said. “Now I get to wear a brand new pair of sneakers every week on television. These things come to reality when you work hard and keep a mindset to stay positive and not let outside influences bring you down.”
