Dylann Roof, the man who opened fire on a church in South Carolina in 2015, killing nine, drew racist symbols on his prison-issue sneakers. A photo of the sneakers was shown in court on Friday during Roof's death penalty trial, MYNBC5 reports.
According to FBI special agent Joseph Hamski, Roof wore the sneakers in jail and during jury selection.
The symbol on the shoes appears to be a Celtic cross, which has been embraced by racist groups. Prosecutors say the symbol on his shoes is similar to ones spotted elsewhere in Roof's photos.
Roof has shown no remorse for the church massacre during his federal death penalty trial.
