Adidas' Black History Month tribute to tennis icon and activist Arthur Ashe isn't limited to special make-ups in the basketball category.
Releasing next month will be this special Ashe-inspired footwear and apparel collection from the Athletics and Originals ranges. First, there's a limited edition Stan Smith sneaker bearing Ashe's stenciled face on the tongue in place of the usual Smith image. The concept was derived from the the on-court rivalry between the two players, as well as their friendship off of it.
Additionally, there's a three-piece collection of apparel that draws inspiration from the game. A white polo top features a clean spread collar and hidden button placket, with a tonal 3-Stripe on the back representing Ashe's scholastic achievements. The reflective tennis court graphic on the back of the pique color bomber commemorates his 1975 Wimbledon victory and the interior is lined with his portrait. Lastly, a pair of classic 8" tennis shorts to round things out.
The Arthur Ashe apparel is available now at adidas.com and the Stan Smith will launch in late-February.
