Fake footwear might be just a bit less plentiful in 2017. According to a report from Mondaq spotted by Footwear News, a container full of a whopping 16,454 pairs of fake sneakers was seized in Chile in November. The haul of illegitimate shoes, consisting in part of copies of designs by Adidas and Nike, originated in China.
Customs officials were tipped off by contradicting numbers spotted in documents for the massive shipment.
While the shipment was declared with a value of $24,209 USD, an estimate of its actual commercial value is at around $32 million.
According to Mondaq, Nike and Adidas were notified of the incident.
