There is no Air Max more more beloved in Italy than the 97, a sneaker that's had a foothold in sneaker rotations in the European country from its debut all the way till now. Nike will celebrate the connection with a coming retro release of the original silver Nike Air Max 97.
The silver Nike Air Max 97 will release in Italy on Dec. 2, with a wider launch in Western Europe to follow on Dec. 14. Nike's announcement about the shoe's return makes no mention of a release in the U.S., but the model should, at the very least, get some 20th anniversary love stateside come 2017.
Nike recently referenced the Air Max 97's special spot in Italian culture with a take on the original silver colorway featuring subtle accents tying it to the nation's flag.
