Critically injured when a wave rolled a log over him on the beach, 11-year old Andy Grass displayed great resilience in recovering from two collapsed lungs. The journey of his road back is captured on the Nike Kyrie 2 Doernbecher, which he says is a tribute to those who have helped him get better.
The word 'Joy' appears within the Swoosh as a nod to his late Aunt Peggy, who battled breast cancer while he recovered. There's also a mention of mom on the underside of the cross-strap, blue accents representing his favorite baseball and football teams and a tongue logo that depicts a sporty lion standing over the log that couldn't keep him down.
Grass' Doernbecher Nike Kyrie 2 and matching apparel are set to release on Saturday, Dec. 17 for $120.
