His wardrobe choice caused a bit of controversy, with one reporter questioning the checkered sneakers.
"You can't think, you just have to do things," he said when questioned about the rationale behind his decision to wear Vans.
Accompanying Frank Ocean to the dinner (and not wearing Vans) was his mother, Katonya Breaux.
