Before he opens the doors of his sneaker store UP NYC, rapper and sneaker legend Fat Joe chopped it up about his one-of-a-kind collection and what to expect from his shop with us on Facebook Live.
Among the many topics covered by Joe was the story of how he got the incredibly rare "Metallic Silver" Mike Bibby Air Jordan 9 Low PE. One would assume that a guy of Joe's stature just has to phone in a favor, but getting this particular pair was more challenging than you'll ever believe.
Once invited to Bibby's Arizona home, Joe went with the intentions of bringing home some of the point guard's exclusive Air Jordans. He ventured into the space where Bibby stores his collection, described as a literal house within a house. An informed sneakerhead, Joe started grabbing some of Bibby's rarest pairs to toss into his duffel bag, and that's when things turned physical.
Noticing Joe trying to make off with some of his gems, Bibby put hands on the rapper, beginning what would become a heated exchange between the two. He even went as far as retrieving a bag of sneakers that Joe had already sent to his truck. However, cooler heads prevailed, Bibby let Joe choose one rare pair to take home and now you know how he ended up with the silver 9s.
