A few months back, info on a new lineup of Air Jordan Retros for 2016 popped up.
On the list was what sounded like the familiar, patriotic color scheme for the "Olympic" Air Jordan 7, causing many to believe that the original version would be making a comeback. The timing on that would make sense too – the next Summer Olympics Games fall in 2016 and the OG "Olympic" colorway previously released in 2004 and 2012 (there was also a stray pair in 2010). If you count 2008's "Miro" release, there's been an Olympic-inspired Air Jordan 7 Retro release every four years for a while now.
The interesting part of this whole thing is the colorway. We're used to seeing some combo of white, metallic gold, midnight navy and true red on all "Olympic" Air Jordan 7 Retros released to date. However, next year's pair will come in white, metallic gold coin, deep royal blue, fire red and light iron ore. Jordan Brand has been known to change up color names and shades, so at first glance one might assume this equation describes the standard "Olympic" pair, but that's not the case.
We've learned from sources at retail that the Air Jordan 7 Retro releasing in 2016 is actually a "Tinker Alternate" edition. Readers can expect it to be along the lines of the "Olympic" colorway, but with a new twist. The theme behind this upcoming retro is what an alternate "Olympic" Jordan 7 would have looked like had Tinker Hatfield designed one for Michael Jordan to wear while playing with the Dream Team in 1992.
Sole Collector will provide updates on the "Tinker Alternate" Air Jordan 7 Retro as new info is available. The release date is currently set for Aug. 16.
