Fila is the sort of entity that makes perfect sense for legendary rapper Nas to partner with, his lyrics having long displayed his affinity for the Italian sportswear brand. Ghostbusters though? That one definitely comes out of left field.
And yet here it is, the Nas x Ghostbusters x Fila collection, an officially licensed set that features logos lifted from the film and clever nods to its characters.
How did this strange collaboration come to be? According to the press release on the project, "there's no bigger Ghostbusters fan than Nas." That phrase might sound silly, but it's certainly plausible when one considers that the Queensbridge rapper was 10 years old when the film first released.
"Ghostbusters was a staple childhood movie for me," Nas said via press release, "one my mother took me to see, and I still love watching today with my son."
This trio of Nas x Ghostbusters x Fila sneakers releases on June 17 via Hypebeast, Colette, Ron Herman, Foot Locker's 34th St. location in New York City, and Fila.com.
