Is Wale's Next Asics Collaboration Inspired by WWE Wrestling?

Much like the team here at Sole Collector, Wale is a sneakerhead who also happens to be an unapologetic fan of professional wrestling. From wrestling references in his music to his very own Wrestlemania weekend event, the rapper wears his enthusiasm for the squared circle on his sleeve — and maybe on his sneakers.

Earlier today, Wale took to SnapChat to preview a pending Asics Gel-Lyte III collab. While he didn't confirm the inspiration, he did include "IC title" in the caption, referencing WWE's Intercontinental Championship. Throughout the 80s and 90s, the IC belt was just as popular as the World Championship, as it was typically worn by some of the most athletic and charismatic wrestlers on the roster. Occasionally, belt holders like Mr. Perfect, the Ultimate Warrior and Shawn Michaels swapped the colors of the strap to distinguish it a bit more. One of the more popular belt strap colors was bright blue, which accents this golden version of the retro runner. Wale also Tweeted a Curt Hennig (Mr. Perfect) line with another look at the shoe on-foot.

As of now, there's no release date for the presumed "Intercontinental" Gel-Lyte III. Wale's last collab with Villa was scrapped due to legal reasons, so they may be making sure to avoid a potential smackdown from Vince McMahon. More on this story as it develops.
