The Seahawks Want Pete Carroll to Wear New Nikes

Will he ditch the Monarchs?

While Pete Carroll is the head coach of one of Nike's favorite teams in the NFL, his footwear has never been the most forward-thinking.

For the past few years, Carroll's been stuck in the Nike Air Monarch, the bargain dad shoe model that's gained an ironic cult-following via groups like Team Monarch. But, Carroll says that the Seattle Seahawks' equipment team is urging him to switch to something more modern.

Our equipment guys are trying to get me in new shoes... I'm thinking of staying w/ my "Air Paternos"... Thoughts?? pic.twitter.com/gejdMn8byM

The new shoe he's wearing in the above right image is the Nike Free Train Versatility, which looks to be coming in special NFL editions judging by the Seahawks logo on the tongue.

Carroll jokingly calls his Monarchs the "Air Paternos." Ironically, the NCAA has asked Nike for evidence about the possible production of an actual Joe Paterno sneaker.
