As its popularity continues to rise, adidas' sneakers are being subjected to the same reseller-plagued releases that Nike and Jordan Brand have endured for years. While that's an encouraging sign for the once-stagnant brand, second-hand business often leaves loyalists on the outside looking in. One retail location is using an interesting tactic to make sure true fans get its next hyped release.
Tomorrow, the "White OG" adidas NMD and City Sock will be available at select locations. Adidas Thailand recently posted its procedure for the release, which, once translated, requires that customers are wearing at least three pieces of adidas Originals gear when purchasing NMDs. Dresses, tops, pants and shoes all qualify, but slides and sandals do not.
The move doesn't really ensure adidas purists a pair of sneakers and only really helps sell a few more pieces of clothing, which may be the actual motive behind it. However things pan out, we probably won't be seeing this strategy crossover to stateside adidas locations anytime soon.
