After 10+ years, adidas and the NBA will be parting ways with Nike taking over as the official on-court apparel supplier in 2018.
In a recent interview with Slam Magazine, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver explained that he feels that Nike will ultimately be a better fit for the NBA stating that adidas is "at root a soccer company" while "basketball is the soul of Nike." Silver also says to expect a lot of innovation from the "mad scientists" at Nike including wearable technology aimed at injury prevention. According to Silver, "Nike is ready to take it to another level."
And while adidas will remain the on-court supplier for another season and a half, Silver does wave The Three Stripes goodbye in the interview.
