While New Balance has been around since 1906, the brand's iconic "N" logo is much younger, arriving in the '70s courtesy of Terry Heckler.

In this new video, Heckler talks about being hired by Jim Davis, who bought the company in 1972 and turned it in the global sportswear force that it is today. He also discusses the changes that the "N" went through over time.

"We worked year after year so you could read the N better," Heckler says.

Heckler wears a not-yet-released shoe in the clip, the New Balance 990v4, that's set to launch on April 1 for $165.
