While the UNC Tar Heels have access to plenty of exclusive Air Jordans, that didn't stop a couple of players on the men's basketball team from reaching out to a sneaker customizer to have some even more exclusive pairs made.
Customizer Mike Sturge, who runs Left Coast Laced, says that big men Joel James and Brice Johnson had him make these custom Air Jordan 11s for them. James' is a reworked Air Jordan 11 "Concord" with UNC's logo, his number and patches on the tongue honoring Dean Smith and Stuart Scott. Johnson's uses the Jordan 11 Low "Cherry" as a base and mixes in a Tar Heels color palette, a UNC logo and his number.
According to Sturge, James and Johnson planned to wear these sneakers for UNC's game against UCLA last weekend. Photos from the game reveal that James did indeed lace his up, while Johnson stuck with the game-issued sneakers.
