The new NBA season officially got underway with the face of the league taking center stage. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers opened up on the road against the Chicago Bulls in a matchup of old rivals.
As expected, LeBron laced up the "Opening Night" Nike LeBron 13 for the game, which was attended by President Barack Obama. Battling through back aches, James put up a typical (for him) line of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 points. And while the Cavs didn't play particularly well, they had an opportunity to win at the end.
But that's when things turned bad for James. With his team down by 2 in the closing seconds, he attempted a game-tying layup, but was rejected by Pau Gasol. The Bulls won 97-95.
Considering the theme, this may have been the first and last appearance of LeBron's opening night sneakers. However, fans can buy a pair of their own on November 11.
