It's often assumed that those who design custom sneakers do so with the end goal of getting hired at a sneaker company.
That actually worked for Kelsey Amy, 24, who runs Shme Custom Kicks. According to a piece on Amy in the Scranton Times Tribune, Amy started out with an internship at Nike and was eventually hired on as a footwear color designer. According to Amy's Instagram account, she works for Jordan Brand.
What's slightly confusing about Amy's position is that she still runs her custom sneaker business despite being employed by a sneaker brand. She explains in the Times Tribune piece that her custom sneaker business is more of a side gig now, but it's still kind of surprising that Nike, Inc. doesn't have any qualms with her selling her own Nike designs.
