Just a couple weeks back, the New York Times reported on how bad sneaker theft has gotten in NYC.
Corroborating the the tales from that piece is this clip from CBS New York, which has the anchor stopping by Sneaker Spot in Bushwick, Brooklyn, to see how bad it's gotten. The employees there confirm the trend of people stealing single display shoes and then heading off to another store to find a match.
Of course, the stores have been adapting to tactics of the thieves. One main way they try to combat sneaker theft is by letting people in the store only try on single sneakers at a time, a method that was brought up in the aforementioned Times piece.
Here's to hoping these retailers figure out a more fool-proof way to prevent future footwear losses.
