The new adidas D Lillard 1 "Oakland Rebels" colorway, shown here, is more than just a tribute to Damian Lillard's Oakland roots.
Sure the shoe represents the team that the Portland All-Star came up under, but he's also going the extra mile and outfitting the squad with pairs and uniforms. The Oakland Rebels never had a shoe deal and had to hold fundraisers to outfit the team, but that will no longer be the case thanks to the efforts of Lillard and adidas.
Along with the blue red/colorway, the shoes reference the team via a #4BarFriday freestyle of Lillard's that's printed on the sockliner. The freestyle honors Raymond Young, the director of the Oakland Rebels AAU program. The liner reads:
Oakland Rebel childhood.. working hard but over looked
My story’s inspiration ain’t no secrets I’m an open book
Hardwood back boards the rims don’t even break away
Taught us how to grind.. proud to say we learned the Raymond way.
The good news is that this pair won't be a player exclusive for members of the team. The adidas D Lillard 1 "Oakland Rebels" will see a retail release on July 10 via Foot Locker and adidas.
