The Nike KD 8, Kevin Durant's latest signature sneaker, is no slouch on the technology side.
The design features two firsts for a Nike Basketball shoe: a Flyweave upper and an articulated, full-length Zoom Air unit on bottom. The former is something like Nike's Flyknit tech, although it provides more structure and is better suited to accommodating different parts of the foot. The latter guarantees responsiveness, working in tandem with the notches running the length of the sole that flex with the foot.
The sneaker was designed by Leo Chang, a man who has been at the helm of Durant's Nike footwear for a while now. Chang, along with Nike designer Thomas Bell, found inspiration in Durant's saber-tooth tiger tattoo, which is represented by the heel counter on back that resembles the fangs of that beast.
First up for the sneakers are the "4th of July" colorway and the bright crimson "V8" that pulls its colors from Durant's Camaro that he customized back in 2010.
The Nike KD 8 will hit NIKEiD on June 23. After that, the "July 4th" colorway will release on June 27, followed by the "V8" colorway on July 11.
