The Air Jordan 13 originally released during the 1997-98 NBA season, which was MJ’s last as a Bull. The silhouette wouldn’t be seen again for the next six years. And when it did return as a retro, it wasn’t an original colorway.

Wheat wasn’t an entirely unfamiliar colorway for the shoe. The original low-top Chutneys introduced brown to the model back in 1998. But it was still surprising to see a highly anticipated model return in this method. Regardless, fans were happy with the shape and relative quality of materials, and the shoe had no trouble selling out. It just wasn’t met with the hype and anticipation that may have been expected for a highly popular model retroing for the first time.

In the years since it’s release, it’s only grown in popularity. These days, pairs are averaging well over $400 on the resale market if you can even find them - similar to the Wheat Air Zoom Generation which dropped a few months earlier. Multiple samples with all-wheat uppers have surfaced in the years since, however never came to fruition despite a positive response.
