The sneaker world was much different back in 2004, particularly when it came to retro sneakers. While they were plenty popular, it was still a somewhat rare thing for a new colorway to release. The 'Cool Grey' Air Jordan 4s were part of only the second series of new Air Jordan 4 colorways. The first set included the Midnight Navys, which return again this upcoming weekend.

Similar to that first series of new Air Jordan 4 colorways, the 'Cool Greys' featured leather straps and heel tabs, as opposed to the plastic found on the originals. This time they were nubuck, like the rest of the upper, which was a first for a non-original colorway.

Like pretty much every Cool Grey Air Jordan, the 4s were popular and sold out. It wasn’t immediate though, with the shoe even hitting sale racks in some places. Over the years the stature of the sneaker has grown, and become one of the most coveted 4s out there.
