A Brief History of Kevin Durant's Award Celebration Nike Sneakers

words // Brandon Richard

Today, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant was named NBA MVP for the first time in his career. Receiving 119 of 125 possible first place votes, Durant averaged a career-best 32 points to go with 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists, also a career high. In capturing his fourth scoring title, he joined Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, George Gervin and Allen Iverson as the only players to win at least four scoring titles.

With Durant's latest achievements, sneakerheads are left wondering what Nike Basketball has up their sleeves for a celebration. Will a fourth 'Scoring Title' shoe be released? What will the 'MVP' KD 6 look like? According to Nike's press release, it'll look however you want, as it'll be a special drop on NIKEiD. More information on that as soon as new details emerge.

Before we see what's next, let's take a look back at some of the Nike sneakers made to celebrate the trophy-winning winning achievements in Durant's career. Scroll through below and let us know which celebratory sneaker has been your favorite thus far.

The now defunct All-Star Weekend H-O-R-S-E competition was an event tailor-made for Durant's skillset. He won the contest in 2009 and 2010 before it was cut from the lineup in 2011. Unfortunately, Nike had this horse hair KD III sample ready to roll out for a possible three-peat, but he ended up wearing it in the Three-Point Shootout instead.
