Later this month, Nike Basketball will release another special 'Aunt Pearl' colorway of Kevin Durant's signature shoe, honoring the Thunder superstar's late aunt while benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
'I made a promise to myself to always honor my Aunt Pearl for the example she set, and the encouragement she gave me to follow my dreams,' said Durant.
Aunt Pearl, an integral figure in KD's life growing up in the DMV, passed away from lung cancer in 2000. Since entering the NBA, KD and Nike have made sure to keep her memory alive through special colorways and great stories.
The 'Aunt Pearl' KD 6 features a pink floral graphic upper, inspired by the pattern on a robe often worn by Aunt Pearl. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo appears on the tongue.
Proceeds from the shoe will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, helping to raise awareness in the battle against women's cancers.
The Nike KD 6 'Aunt Pearl' will release at select global retailers on Thursday, February 27.
