words // Brandon Richard

In the midst of his prime, Michael Jordan stepped away from basketball to pursue his father's dream of seeing him play big league baseball. In February 1994, MJ signed a deal to play for the Chicago White Sox's minor league affiliate, the Birmingham Barons. With the Barons, he batted .202, knocked in 51 RBIs and hit 3 home runs — not exactly numbers you want if you're hoping to make it to the next level. With baseball out of his system, Jordan announced his return to the NBA in March 1995 and the rest his history.

Twenty years later, the Jordan Brand will pay homage to Jordan's brief baseball career with a special 'Barons' colorway of the Air Jordan 9 — the shoe he wore in cleated form that season. The 'Barons' 9 features a white leather base with a grey mudguard and black hits on the tongue, laces and midsole. Pinstripe detailing on the inner lining and the embroidered number '45' on the heel make this a must-have for Jordan collectors.

You'll be able to pick up a pair on Saturday, April 5 for $170. Sizes run down to infant.
