For the 1995-1996 season, the Seattle Sonics underwent a makeover, adding red and orange to their palette and adopting a new Space Needle logo. Wearing their new uniforms, the Sonics won a franchise record 64 games that season and played the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals. The style would remain in place for six years before the uniforms were changed again in 2000-2001.
When we think of that era of Sonics hoops, two players instantly come to mind. One is the soon-to-be Hall of Fame point guard Gary Payton and the other is "The Reignman" Shawn Kemp. Paying homage to those great Sonics teams, Kemp's Reebok Kamikaze II signature shoe is being released in an all-new colorway inspired by the 95-96 unis.
The shoe sports an olive nubuck base with crimson leather overlays and gold accents on the Vector logos and midsole. Black works the laces, inner lining and outsole.
Though we haven't heard anything about this release until now, the Reebok Classics launch calendar has this pair set to drop this Friday for $100. Eastbay is another retailer expected to carry the colorway. We'll keep you posted if the date changes.
