If there were any lingering questions about Serena Williams' dedication to the sport of tennis, she's answered them all tenfold this summer. In what has been dubbed the "Summer of Serena," the 30-year old has been utterly dominant, capturing her fifth Wimbledon title, first Olympic Gold Medal and capping off the Grand Slam season yesterday with a thrilling victory over Victoria Azarenka.
After an easy 6-2 first set win, Serena dropped the second to the Number 1 ranked Belarusian by the same score. The third and deciding set was one of the ages that featured Serena coming back from a 5-3 hole, winning the last 4 points to claim her fourth US Open. Her 15 Grand Slam titles place her at sixth all-time and fourth in the Open era.
Number 15 was won in a PE colorway of her signature Nike tennis shoe, the Air Max Mirabella 3. Available at NikeStore in Obsidian/Fireberry, Serena laced up a volt-accented pair with custom hard court tooling and personal logos, including the previous years she had won the Open in hearts along the lateral heel.
