Preparing to officially run through their Fall/Winter 2012 footwear lineup, adidas Originals gives us an official look at the returning Basket Profi, a high-top originally released alongside the iconic Superstar in 1969 and was a benchmark for lightweight footwear at the time. When most hoop shoes were being made with canvas, the Basket Profi was one of the first to sport a nubuck leather upper. Nubuck allowed for more stability and padded ankles provided extra support. The vulcanized sole improved flexibility, freedom of motion and was quickly adopted by skaters in the 70s. Enhanced resistance was achieved through the use of form-fitting, half-moccasin construction.
This season, the Basket Profi returns in a one-to-one reissue known as the Basket Profi OG. Three colorways are included in the pack, including University Red, Craft gold and Dark royal. The shoes feature a soft suede upper with textile three-stripes, and vintage gum rubber outsoles for a gently worn look.
The pack will be available at select adidas Originals stores and retailers on August 1st.
