Of all of the events happening in California this week, the most important may have taken place at Inglewood High School yesterday. In association with the WINGS for the Future program, the Jordan Brand was in attendance for the pep rally to wrap up six weeks of work with the school.
In their time with Inglewood High, Jordan refurbished six basketball courts, four classrooms and created three new computer labs. The brand also held an essay contest and t-shirt design competition, with the winning design actually being produced and made available at local retailers. Proceeds from the t-shirts will be divided between Inglewood and WINGS.
As a surprise for the Inglewood High students, members of Team Jordan were in the house to conduct a career day for the school. Pro football players LaMarr Woodley, Andre Johnson and Lawrence Jackson stopped by, as well as Paralympian April Holmes. Each athlete shared encouraging messages with the students, placing emphasis on hard work and dedication to meet personal goals.
Also in the building was UK artist Dave White, fresh off the unveiling of his Air Jordan I Retro DW project for WINGS. At the assembly, White also unveiled two Jordan-themed murals created by Inglewood High students. Dave oversaw the process and gave special recognition to the students involved in the project.
The students were then treated to a special musical performance, with rap group Cali Swag District taking the court for two performances, including the smash hit "Teach Me How To Dougie."
As the event came to an end, Inglewood High honored the Jordan Brand with a ceremony to show appreciation for the Jordan Brand's contribution to their school. A special IHS Sentinels jersey with "Jordan" across the back was created and will hang in their gymnasium as a reminder of the WINGS for the Future project.
