While we are only a few hours away from the midnight launches all across the country for the most anticipated release of 2010, lets take a look at what almost hit store shelves this holiday season.

When the "Cool Grey" Air Jordan XI Retro was first released in March of 2001, pandemonium broke out all over with mass hysteria, riots and robberies reported all over the globe as people literally fought their way into a pair of these highly coveted kicks. Now over nine years later, the hype is back and it doesn't seem any less. But what most call a must have sneaker almost had a makeover the second time around.

When these were originally brought up to hit the retro scene for a second time, they were going to get rid of the nubuck upper and feature mesh in place of it, much like the "concord" and "space jam" colorways. Now while this is just a slight change, it could've spelled doom for this release. Or because it's an XI, would it of mattered? I'm sure the question now will be, would you all have copped them if they featured a new mesh upper instead of nubuck? The slight change in the recently released "altitude" XIII Retro didn't seem to hurt the colorway at all as it still sold out. What do you think?
