Andy Kessler for Vans Syndicate words_Nick Engvall It's impossible to really say what Andy Kessler meant to New York City skateboarding, but it has always been evident of his influence. The best words I'seeve n to characterize Andy's place in NYC skateboarding are from Dante Ross who said, "Andy Kessler was the undisputed Godfather of NYC skateboarding end of story. Every skater in the history of NYC skating is indebted to him whether they know it or not." Powerful words from someone who has been an integral part of not only skateboarding and streetwear culture, but really someone who helped shape what New York city is today in many aspects of culture. Unfortunately Andy Kessler passed away last summer before getting a chance to really see what would come from his collaboration with Vans. Working with the Syndicate team at Vans, Andy came up with two designs. The Sk8-Hi and the Old Skool were chosen, and come in a mix of black suede and leather uppers with a traditional white Vans waffle sole. Andy's specific influences can be seen on the "AK" logo placed on the insole, and the two things that he had an incredible passion for on the heel logo, New York City and Skateboarding. Andy's Vans designs are available at select retailers now, and you can also support other his other initiatives by visiting a site created by his close friends and family, http://kess-nyc.org/.
