words_Nick Engvall Mike Carroll and FTC are both legends in the skate community, so a collaboration between the two makes perfect sense. Carroll made a name for himself in the early 90's, eventually winning Thrasher's Skater Of The Year award in 1994. Five years later he and Rick Howard introduced Lakai Limited Footwear with a simple approach, "the shoes we skate." Though some skaters seem to peak and then quickly fall off the map, Carroll has continued to be successful both on and off the board. On the board he repeated his SOTY accomplishment again in 2007, while off the board, Lakai and another of Carrol and Howard's ventures, Girl Skateboards continue to be successful. FTC has been around for over 3 decades now, but it was about the same time that Carroll was grabbing his first SOTY honors that they opened up shop in San Francisco's Haight/Ashbury neighborhood. As one of the early shops to support the kids that made spots like the EMB world renowned skate spots, FTC has been a long time supporter of San Francisco's skate culture. Today they also have successful locations in Tokyo and Sacramento. FTC and Carroll's friendship dates back to that same early 90's time period when Carroll was one of the first team riders for FTC. Celebrating the career of Carroll, and tenured success of FTC could only be done with a collaboration, and what better choice than Carroll's signature from the Lakai line. The Carroll Select Lows feature a soft suede finish, form-fitting uppers, and a vulcanized sole with a tacky rubber outsole for extra board control, while the comfort side of things is handled by a full-length shock absorbing insole. A vintage styled FTC logo is placed on the tongue, while the heel features the Lakai and Select logos that traditionally fill these paces on the Carroll Select model. The FTC x Carroll Select is now available at all FTC locations.
