words_Nick Engvall The adidas Originals collection for early next year is looking pretty solid. Although the Originals line is comprised of retro pieces, a newcomer seems to be stealing the spotlight. The adidas Originals Fortitude Mid takes new technology and bits of adidas classics, mixing and matching them together in a puzzle like fashion. The result is a sneaker with boot-like inspiration, and an unparalleled level of detail, especially when compared to other Originals. While most of the Originals lineup consists of simple and established styles like the Gazelle and Superstar, the Fortitude Mid starts with a technologically up-to-date athletic sole and builds from there. The mesh toebox looks like a typical running silhouette until you follow it as it seamlessly flows up the tongue. At this point the silhouette takes more of a fashion-forward rugged look. The traditional 3 stripes have been perforated into the side panel, while a suede overlay panel on the side is accented with exaggerated "X" stitching. The lace loops are creative to say the least, including a single colormatched loop at the top of the ankle. The final pieces are laid in place in the form of some 90's inspired pieces, such as round speckled laces and the ever popular heel tab. Now that all the pieces are in place let's see if the puzzle fits into the bigger picture, that is, the current footwear scene. What do you think? Though they won't ship until January of 2010, you can pre-order both of these colorways now from End.
