words_Nick DePaula This fall, Converse Basketball will be debuting an all-new visible cushioning system as the brand enters a new era of design language with a return to its Star Chevron logo on all models. What better shoe to debut the heel cushioning than on a remastered Weapon, carrying over the Y-Bar and forefoot support overlays that were made famous by Larry Bird and Magic Johnson during the 1986 NBA season. The new system, dubbed Balls Technology, is made up of several polyurethane balls encased in TPU that compress and react during play, while still sitting low to the ground for added stability. (Be on the lookout for a performance review in the near future.) While the Weapon EVO will be releasing in nine team colorways during the month of September, two more limited lifestyle versions are now available on Converse.com and at select independent retailers and the House Of Hoops. The black/silver and yellow/purple versions, seen below, feature more exotic materials like croc skin and texturized leather and are out now for $90, while the team colorways for this fall will retail for $75.
