20 Designs That Changed the Game: Nike Air Foamposite One

Next in Nike's 20 Designs That Changed the Game is the iconic Air Foamposite One.

“There was no brief it was pure experimentation.”- Eric Avar

if you're on this website, you probably already know about the Foamposite One.  It's one of the most iconic basketball shoes ever and it seems to get more popular every year. From 1997, it still looks like it's from the future, which is probably what makes it so timeless.  From the original Royal Blue to the super hyped "Galaxy" make up, the Foamposite One remains at the forefront of sneaker collectors' list of most beloved and most wanted shoes.

It all started with designer Eric Avar's inspiration from a EVA foam sunglasses case, that was lightweight but had structure and form.  His goal was to create a one piece, seamless design that wrapped and conformed to the foot.  Penny Hardaway became the shoes endorser after he saw it in a bag of samples that Avar had brought along while discussing Penny's upcoming third signature model.  When Penny spotted the shoe, he instantly had to have it, and it just happened to be in Penny's Orlando Magic-standard Royal Blue from the beginning.
