In 1987, the PUMA First Round made its first appearance on the cover of “THRASHER” magazine. That same year, the Screaming Hand graphic, one of the most legendary graphics of the era, made its debut with Santa Cruz skateboards. The Screaming Hand was created by Jim Phillips, known for music poster art, who was the art director for Santa Cruz from 1975 through 1990.
Features include a blue nubuck upper with glossy 3D screen-printing, a molded silicon Screaming Hand graphic on the heel, pearlized patent formstripe and collar, four different sets of laces and sockliner featuring an enlarged version of the graphic.
The First Round, which was originally release in 1987 as a high-cut alternative to the Basket (a hoop shoe), found a following with skaters. This shoe serves as a tribute to one of skates most influential brands, Santa Cruz, and to those OG skaters who wore the shoe to thrash way back when. The shoes release this Saturday, August 30th, along with a matching tee at the following retailers:
Bodega, Classic Kicks, ATMOS NYC, ALIFE, Premium Goods, Undefeated, HUF, Curve, Sportie LA and Purist.
