There is only one pair of shoes that has ever gone 100 meters in 9.69 seconds - this gold colorway of PUMA’s Theseus II Spikes. If that isn’t saying enough, they also hold the record in the 200 now as well, clocking in with a time of 19.30 seconds.
Everyone that has been following the Olympics is familliar with the name Usain Bolt by now, but his shoes are another story. In collaboration with Bolt, PUMA developed the Theseus II to provide the support needed for such a powerful and explosive athlete in the 100m and 200m distances. The outsole consists of a full-length Pebax® spike plate, rounded out with a rubber heel. The upper was built to be stiff, for optimal sprinting efficiency, yet still be breathable. This was achieved through a combination of synthetic leather and airmesh. And if the design of the upper looks familiar, it should - it shares its almost dress shoe-like design with PUMA’s Cell Meio.
The shoes worn by Bolt were custom made for him, however, you can buy the Theseus II in his Jamaica colorway. They are available now at puma.com and retail for $100 - world record times however are not guaranteed with purchase.
