When Kihachrio Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Tiger in 1949, his aim was to provide quality footwear for apathetic Japanese teenagers after his country was ravaged by World War II. What started as a sole proprietorship has quietly established itself in the past half century, developing both specialized running shoes and exceptional casual options. New in ’08 from the brand is the Seck Mid and Lo, along with the Coolidge Lo.
The Coolidge is a sleek, anti-leisure model that is marked by a reinforced heel flap and a vulcanized toe bumper. The Seck Lo is characterized by a woven upper and dual stitched toebox—but I can’t front—the Mid is simply electrifying. With a speckled upper and luxurious ankle notch, the shoe is sure to warrant attention and perhaps a few, “Where’d you get those?” The translucent midsole is sweet. The grips are available now at Mita, but everything should eventually be released stateside. Stay tuned.

Yeah, I’m really starting to look into some of this casual stuff. No preppy college women want to see me rolling out in a pair of dilapidated Onslaughts!
