If you checked out my last story on the Penny III’s then you were lucky enough to catch the first glimpse of the newest colorway of the Penny II’s. If you didn’t then lucky you that I am back once again and this time with a more detailed look at this shoe.
In what looks like the first and only non original colorway being released, this one takes inspiration from Anfernee Hardaway’s most current team he played for; the Miami Heat. Very similar to the original black and varsity royal colorway, but they have a few differences. One big difference you see right away is the 1 Cent logo on the heel.
Unfortunately for us OG Penny heads that logo which is found on this colorway is not found on the original black and royal one, it was replaced with a Nike Swoosh. Another difference is that the reflective strip on these is red instead of silver. Continuing on besides the obvious difference in colorway is the air bubble. The zoom air itself on these is maize colored. But either way, Nike did a good job on these.
It is very hard for us sneaker-heads to come to terms with a grail type sneaker and see it butchered in various new colors with the end result sometimes killing its legacy. But this time around the inspiration and color placement are done perfectly and will not hurt the legacy of the Penny II at all.
These are scheduled to be released in January of 2009 with a retail pricetag of $135. Keep your eye on the Official Penny Thread in our forums as well as the Release Dates section found here for all your up-to-date info on this Penny release as well as others.
