words by Steve Jaconetta
While the Seattle Supersonics are now the Oklahoma City Thunder, that doesn’t mean their legacy shouldn’t live on. The Sonics will be represented in the Jordan Six Rings Championship Series that will release in 2009.
This series of shoes features a specific colorway for each team the Chicago Bulls played against in the NBA finals during their six championships in the ’90s. So far we’ve seen the Lakers, Blazers and Suns. This is the fourth of the five teams (Utah is the final team) that will be represented in this set which pays homage to the Seattle Supersonics. Like the others in this series this shoe features a nice all white upper.
Patent leather with green and gold accents personalize this shoe to match the now defunct Soncs green and gold jersey. Laser print detailing icons and images representing this team and series are found throughout the upper as with all the other shoes in this set. This one even features a little love to once Team Jordan member, “The Glove” Gary Payton. Now if only Sonics were still playing in Seattle, Ray Allen never left (although I really don’t mind) and they have a good team everyone would be set.
The Jordan Six Rings Championship Series will debut on January 24, 2009 with the “Hollywood” Los Angeles Lakers colorway. The Seattle Supersonics and the three others will soon follow. Retail on all these Jordan Six Rings releases will be $160. Once specific release dates is confirmed we will post it up here and in our forums as always. For those who cannot wait, these are available now for a higher price at both Marquee Sole and Sole-Locker. Enjoy the pictures below.

This makes me want to cry out of joy. Went to an NBA finals game that year. I still am convinced we are in the playoffs and the SuperSonics are just not in it.

Oh, how I yearn for the Seattle X’s. I can’t believe they never got into releasing the city series of the X’s!

i am feeling these. it would be pretty cool to get all of the series and save them

I like these. They have a real unique colorway, as do all of the 6 Rings in the Championship Pack. Me personally, I am going to cop the “Utah Jazz” 6 Rings. Even though it seems like they’ll be the last of the 6 Rings that will be released, the sneakers are hot enough to wait for.

Jerronimo — You’d actually wear these as a Sonics fan who lost in the NBA Finals to MJ and the Bulls? I don’t get how you could wear a shoe that’s celebrating your team’s loss…
How many people in Salt Lake City wear black/red XIV’s?

I think Jerronimo just wants ‘em to commemorate the Sonics.
BTW, why didn’t they use the classic Sonics colorway, and not the colorway they wore at the time?
