The trip for me really started at 8:00 PM on Saturday. My flight wasn’t going to take off until 8:00 AM on Sunday but a call came in that changed my plans in a hurry. My mother calls and said they had 11 inches of rain that morning and now the river which feeds into a lake they live on is rising quickly. My parents ended up taking everything they could from the 1st floor to the top floor as fast as they could. After a few hours of hauling all of the pictures / computers / whatever they could grab the battle was over - and the water won. By 11 pm my mother called back and said the water smashed through the huge sliding glass doors as well as the windows - the downstairs was done.
I called her multiple times on her cell phone and it would just go to voicemail as the cell network was overloaded. After that I didn’t hear from her for hours and I was mad worried about their safety. I canceled my flight in the morning as I thought I was going to have to fly up to Indiana and help them get things straight. She finally called at 1:30 am and said the water had finally crested. Damn - it was great to hear her voice and it was even better to know that she was safe. I re-booked my ticket for 5 pm the next day and was done for the night.
I’ll post up some pics once my parents get back online and I’m sure they are going to be serious. The good news is they had flood insurance. The bad news is that anything they lost like pictures are gone forever.
To say the least this isn’t the start to the trip I wanted.

I had the pleasure of meeting your folks in LA Steve, glad to hear they are ok and safe. Must be tough to still take the trip after hearing that
