It’s an obvious annual ritual at my place — the NBA Draft.
This year there seemed to be two clear-cut favorites: Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley. Yet I still can’t seem to take B-Easy serious.
After all, his live-in (suspicious?) High School coach Dan Barto once recalled this:
“There were many nights where I would come back from work and he would be doing his homework just five feet from the television with an empty container of 30 wings. The best part was that he sometimes would be wearing 3-D sunglasses watching Sponge Bob Square Pants.”
Riiiiiiiight…which makes me wonder when Peter Vescey says this:
“One of the elite draftees smokes more herb than both Cheech and Chong.”
So go figure — and good luck in South Beach Mike.
Regardless, I’m still convinced Juice will be an absolute monster at the next level. Guess he’ll have to do his work in Memphis after McHale swindled the Grizz for The Outlet Pass Extravaganza along with Mike Miller. On the brightside, at least OJ will be getting money legitimately for once, though I was definitely looking forward to a potential Gay-Love combo in Graceland.
Had a few friends over to watch the festivities.
Justin and Brianna stopped by. Along with Dane, Mikey and Killa Cam.
And of course I gotta give a shout to Portland’s own Kevin Love. It was weird seeing him walk across the stage as it was just three years ago that I was hanging out at his house with his brother Collin having to maneuver through boxes and boxes of free S.Dot swag from Reebok. Congrats to Collin for also writing the blueprint on how to ride your younger brother’s coattails.
You made it kid!
Thoughts:
* How the hell did Westbrook go 4th with Bayless allegedly a lock to Seattle?
* Wait — Portland gets Bayless for next to nothing? NICE.
* I’m demanding the return of Russ Granik.
* Maarty Leunen will have a shorter NBA career than George Zidek.
* And lastly — it’s time to snatch up some Blazers tickets — gonna be an incredible season.
