For decades now, New Balance has been the antithesis in a hoops market focused on gimmicks and overbearing advertising, offering no-frills, performance-rooted models such as the 885 and 902. ’08 will mark no end to the brand’s rich basketball tradition (which dates back to James Worthy and M.L. Carr) as they are set to release the 889 and 905 this coming August.
The 889 is crafted upon New Balance’s tried-and-true ABZORB EX foam, which provides ample stability without compromising comfort. The interface is unique and different from other foams in that it has no cell shape. In more undecorated terms, the implement does not compress, allowing for greater comfort over the course of a strenuous season.
The 905 initiates the second wave of New Balance models that incorporates the inventive Zip platform. (The 8025 and 8026 met wide acclaim in ‘07.) The shoe also features a tastefully placed midfoot strap that offers lockdown like Riker’s, while the Lightning Dry inner lining is famous in many running circles for its heat dissipation benefits and should provide the same benefits in this iteration.
The 889 will retail for $95.00, while the 905 will drop for $100.00. When we find out release availability for both sneakers, we’ll be sure to hit you with the info here at Sole Collector.com.
