The latest issue of Sole Collector is probably one of the top five issues of all time. What makes it so special? A few things. First off the cover you are looking at is one of the best covers we have done to date. Easily in the top 5. But a cover is a cover – what is inside? This issue has 68 pages of Kobe IV content from the designers of the Zoom Kobe IV to designers of past Kobe kicks (yes, including an interview with Tinker Hatfield, who was the OG Huarache designer).
But the content doesn’t stop there…. one of the most unique features we have ever put together is in this issue and it is called the Industry Insider. We interviewed 16 people in the industry who have amazing jobs and followed them through their childhood to what they are doing today. One guy that I have known for years told us a GREAT story – he started off in the mailroom at Reebok and moved all the way up to a position that allowed him to sign Iverson / Jay-Z / 50 and many others. And you might be surprised at what paths you can take to become a designer… it probably isn’t what you imagined. Bottom line – these interviews show you a clear path to getting a job in the sneaker industry – and there is a common thread throughout…
Lastly, we have an Under Armour feature looking at their first steps into the runner category of the sneaker industry. It is real interesting to see how they are doing it, and there’s surely a lot of great info on a start-up sneaker company.
This issue is available on Eastbay.com now. It is a limited cover so they will be gone at some point in time. If you really want this cover you have a week before a huge e-mail blast goes out and then it will probably be all over for this cover on Eastbay. Click here to check it out on eastbay.com

Lastly, we would like to extend a big thanks to our good friend John Shanley for his involvement in this issue, and his impact on the industry will be dearly missed. Much respect.

Why are you fat, ground attached nerds so hating on everything? Kobe especially….Face it, Jordan probably greatest talented ever player won on good teams, well coached by PJ. Kobe, once he grew up,……. soon, it will happen….knew he didn’t always want to go through life being known as :….not as good as Jordan”…..so he does his own thing, and you have to admit, not many people could have dealt with what he had to go through, growing up in Europe, straight to NBA, being abused by RuPaul’s date, and at the age of 30 is still growing as a man. Why do you waste your time about the who’s the “greatest ever”…just enjoy them both. Because one day you wil be stuck watching “Floor Wade”, he is “ONE” with the court, or CP3, now why do they gave to play with everyone’s name….(shaq could have been “S-Oneal”, or Lebron could be LB-James)…is this supposed to be cute, slick, or what?
To “Kobe wears a purple thong”, tell me, why so interested????? Want some???? 131-92 you probably have a tattoo of it next to “Buckner is the Best”……FYI…. You guys got Garnett as a gift from McHale, the Gasol to LA trade is starting to balance out as it looks like his brother is a player we should have kept and given Memphis someone else. Kobe has been trashed in the past, but his PR people rebuilt his life…..I actually think that if the Lakers don’t do it this year you will see a moderate rebuild, Gasol is a 7’3″ (I think) finesse forward, and Bynum, talented, improving, but….
I give the Celtics credit, done well, to smush it all together and do it in one year…good coaching.
It’s just a game, it’s not my job or yours…..enjoy it. (because life sucks)…..
Maybe the Lakers can adjust to the playoff style of basketball and not get bounced around by Pierce’s big Ass….(custom wheelchair????)
Have a nice rest of the season, and I don’t think home court advantage in THE FINALs Series is all that important if you can win one of the first 2 on the road. Why do they do that? It’s a sternundrum. (in other words…somehow it makes money, probably cuz they have to move less media back and forth)…..
Maybe we’ll be watching Orlando vs New Orleans in the finals, now that would set an all time low for tv ratings.
March 15th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Uhh, that’s great, humanomaly.
Still, nothing you said is directly addressing to how KobeWearsAPurpleThong says Kobe’s still a douche.
The guy clearly stated that Kobe’s a great player, no doubt.
Have you ever approached him or his family in real life?
March 15th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Whoa, hold on.
AND you’re implying that Orlando vs. New Orleans as ’09 Finals will be an all-time low for TV ratings???
Now I know you’re just a plain, ignorant Kobe groupie and not ONE BIT an NBA fan…

Very nice Los Angeles Lakers information. I hope to be in Los Angeles for a game this spring.
