The Sneakers That Are Selling: Chicago

What sneakers are the top sellers in the Chicago area?

We all scour the Internet for the latest and greatest sneakers, but how do we know what really moves sales at the store? Every corner of the world has unique clientele, and the city of Chicago is no different. And even within the Chicago sneaker market, tastes are different. We polled four Windy City sneaker spots (2 boutiques and 2 consignment shops) to see what sneakers are moving off the shelves at retail and in the resale market. See what's selling below

Diego Ross, GM and buyer, LDRS1354

“It’s the brand Jordan phenomenon. It’s crazy, outside of brand Jordan it’s what I call functional fashion. So, things like the Nike Free Run and Roshe, that whole look is selling pretty well. Especially when it comes to the Roshe. We just got a an all fuchsia and black, and it’s  selling. It doesnt even matter. It doesn’t matter the color.”

Jon Edison, sneaker broker, Overtime [consignment]

it’s either Bred XIs, or Black Cement IIIs. Then you’ll have the occasional people that will come in looking for that sneaker that just recently came out. They might come in a week after a sneaker has released, like, ‘Oh, do you have the Spizike Air Jordan VIs?’ or something else that’s really hyped up.”

David Robinson, manager and buyer, Saint Alfred

“The best selling shoes selling right now other than the ones that have a lot of energy behind them are the clean classics. Black [Vans] Sk8-His, white [Vans] Authentics, [New Balance] 997s, white on white AF1s, any clean AM1, any clean Free or Flyknit. Basically clean silhouettes in clean colors that will go with whatever you wear.”

Melo Rosario, owner, Born With Soul [consignment]

“Right now, the Chicago craze is Jordans. Not really the new releases, but the older stuff. So that’s what we tend to sell the most of. Basically, non retro’s or anything older from 2003-2008.”
