The Gucci Tennis Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary
words // Zac Dubasik
High end and luxury sneakers have enjoyed a steady climb in popularity over the past few years, and for good reason. As the prices of more traditional sneakers have risen, and are often only attainable on the resale market, fans would rather get better materials, build quality, and first-world construction if they're dropping $500 a pair.
The shoe that gave birth to the luxury sneaker phenomenon dates all the way back to 1984, with Gucci's classic Tennis model. And it just so happens to be the 30th anniversary. To celebrate, Gucci has released a commemorative edition which features "1984" stitching on the insole, as well as embossed on the heel. While the all-white edition has already sold out, black, as well as white and green colorways are still available at Gucci.com, and retail for $495.
